Changes in SDF Force Structure
No time to comment in detail just yet, but here are the figures and breakdown on SDF force structure in the new FY05 National Defense Program Guideline, hot off the presses and just approved by the cabinet hours ago.

Interesting... but for a 10 year comparison I would need to see an equipment list to see a trend in real terms. Numbers may be misleading; this may be a mini RMA in Japan. I know spending has been down over the past few years, but...
Just a quick note about this interesting information.
I think the primary reason that spending on SDFs went down this year is that Japan is urged to get rid of our large budget deficit. We have currently about 750 billion yens as our budget deficit. In dollors, it would be "7,112,375,533,428 dollars".
Now, the government of Japan aims to raise taxes especially, a consumption tax. Japan needs a consumer advocate! hahaha
